BECKHAM GETS LAND FOR STADIUM

Football legend David Beckham and his ownership group would be elated that they can proceed with plans for a new MLS team after the land required to build a stadium was acquired.

The commissioners voted nine to four in favour of the plan, meaning the last major hurdle for Beckham and his group was over. The land, situated at the corner of Northwest Sixth Street and Sixth Avenue, is the last piece required for the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star to move on with plans for a 25,000 seat capacity stadium.

Miami Beckham United (MBU) said they reached another major milestone by acquiring the land to build the privately funded stadium. They asked that the MLS help them move forward with the dream of a soccer club that Miami has been waiting for.

MBU will pay the county $6million for the land. They parted with $19 million for the other six acres. The whole process has been slow and frustrating for the group but things should move ahead quickly now. The plans that were birthed back in 2007 when the player moved to America are far from over though. He had agreed with Los Angeles Galaxy for the right to start an expansion franchise for $25 million. He selected Miami as his preferred location in 2013 as the group could not get a waterfront land they wanted.

MBU says they are excited at the prospects of the project as it was close to the Miami River, offering more modes of transport for fans. The community are wary of those who are pursuing soccer business these days. Landon Donovan is also hoping to get his soccer team in San Diego. He is slowed down by a vote critical to the plans of building a new stadium as well.
